The Mask of Pregnancy?

Birth Control tablets are a known trigger of Melasma, which is a common skin disorder seen in men and women. In this case...I'm just talking gals. It's commonly seen in women during pregnancy and is often referred to as the “mask of pregnancy”. It presents itself as a dark facial skin rash with irregular borders. The rash is usually recognized on the cheeks, lips, nose or forehead. The skin discoloration can vary in color ranging from a dark brown to a deep grey. The cause of melasma remains unknown but is believed to be due to an increase in the production of cells which release the pigment melanin, which is responsible for the dark color of the skin.

It's awful. Take it from one who suffers with Melasma, but have no fear CONCEALER is here! There are ways to completely rid your skin of any "masking" from birth control or pregnancy, such as skin brighteners and trips to the dermatologist, but for those of us with little cash and the need of instant gratification, foundation and concealers are OUR best friends. There are a variety of awesome concealers out there. I tend to sway toward Dermablend's Cover Cream and Kevyn Aucoin's Sensual Skin Enhancer. In his tutorial, I used M.A.C's Studio Sculpt Concealer. Melasma can be a major blow, but it is easily covered and... hey! If you don't feel like covering it, DON'T! Be proud of your skin. I AM STRONG! I AM INVINCIBLE! I AM WOMAN!

The Sensual Skin Enhancer was created to mimic the appearance of healthy, radiant skin. It can be used as a spot foundation, concealer, all-over foundation, highlighter (choose a shade lighter than your actual skin tone) or mixed with your moisturizer for a tinted moisturizer effect - the possibilities are endless! Honey and jojoba oil create a soft, dewy finish as well as lend themselves to the formula's silky texture. It may be applied with the fingers, a brush or a sponge (wet or dry) for any desired finish. Apply over The Sensual Skin Primer for a smooth texture, and top with The Gossamer Loose Powder if you prefer a matte look. No matter how you wear it, The Sensual Skin Enhancer leaves the complexion with a fresh, flawless finish. - (Some info on Aucoin cosmetics for those not in the know)
